This collection of ten photographs from the Southern Railway Land and Industrial Dept. in Washington, D.C. shows various scenes of Ala. between 1910 and 1913. The photographs show the residence of James R. Powell in Mobile Co.; a farm near Daws, Chambers Co.; a steam shovel mining iron ore in Franklin Co.; a pine forest, fig orchard, and orange grove in Mobile Co.; an Ala. corn field; a school building in Dallas Co.; the Franklin Co. High School; and the Haleyville Public School in Winston Co. The photographs are glued to 9 by 6 inch mat board with full descriptions on their backs. The photographs provide information on agricultural methods and conditions, rural living conditions, and school facilities in Ala., ca.1913.
